Three of the UK’s most popular comedians and a hugely-popular Norfolk entertainer are all heading to Norwich Theatre Royal in 2019.
Eddie Izzard (above), Josh Widdicombe, Henning Wehn and Joe Ringer are all set to entertain audiences there with tickets for all shows going on sale later this week.
Eddie brings his brand new show to the Theatre Royal on October 23 and 24. Five years after his previous international comedy tour, Eddie’s new show promises to be a much more personal performance focusing on his own unique and surreal view of life, love, history and his theory of the universe.
He said: “It is getting close to the time when I have to go off for a while to have a political life. Before I do that, I want to keep giving audiences around the world the best stand-up comedy shows that I can especially at a time of Brexit-hate and Trump-hate. My new show is about everything from humans over the last 100,000 years to talking dogs and animal superheroes. I am looking forward to coming to see everyone again.”
Earlier in the month, Henning Wehn takes to the Norwich Theatre Royal stage on October 5.
The man dubbed the German Comedy Ambassador will give the audience a call to arms to everyone to stop pondering and hand-wringing, and instead get on their bikes and put their faces to the grindstone.
Henning first took up stand-up back in 2003 after going to an open mic night and feeling he could not be worse than the acts that were performing.
His show with fellow countryman Otto Kuhnle was nominated for the Barry Award at the 2009 Melbourne Comedy Festival and he also makes regular TV and radio appearances on the likes of Live At The Apollo, Have I Got News For You, Would I Lie To You and 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
Then November 2 sees Josh Widdicombe bring his latest stand-up tour to the Theatre Royal. He is promising a mix of grumbles and jokes while tackling a range of subjects including advent calendars, pesto and the closing time of his local park.
Best-known for his twice-nominated Bafta-nominated and multiple award-winning show The Last Leg and his critically-acclaimed sitcom JOSH, he has also been seen on TV shows Insert Name Here, QI, Have I Got News For You, A League Of Their Own and his hit podcast Quickly Kevin Will He Score.
And making their Norwich Theatre Royal return on June 2 is the Joe Ringer Band. Popular Norfolk entertainer Joe, a 15-piece orchestra and some of the UK’s top vocalists will perform some of the silver screen’s biggest hits in an evening of entertainment entitled The Greatest Show.
From The Greatest Showman and Moulin Rouge to James Bond themes and Dirty Dancing, it promises to be a musical treat. The show will also include some of the greatest songs from glamorous Fifties Hollywood by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, a host 80s power ballads and a special tribute to the music of The Blues Brothers.
All the shows go on sale this week with Eddie Izzard tickets available from Thursday November 29 at 9.30am, with seats for the other three shows available 24 hours later.
John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said: “It is going to be exciting to welcome three very different styles of comedy with Eddie, Josh and Henning all gracing our stage. All three are promising to give their very different take on the ever-changing world we inhabit as well as their distinctive brands of observational humour. In addition, for some much-needed escapism, Joe and his band are guaranteed to celebrate the magic and power of some of the most iconic music from the world’s best-known big-screen blockbusters.”
