As Shrek the Musical returns to Norwich for two weeks, one particular cast member who will be relishing the chance to appear in Norfolk again is former Springwood High School student Kevin Yates. Shrek the Musical was the first role he secured after graduating from Arts Educational Schools London and this time he returns to the Theatre Royal with greater on-stage responsibilities. Kevin plays the role of Papa Bear, understudy to Donkey and is a key member of the ensemble; operating puppetry for the dragon and contributing to the show’s incredible high energy.
We were delighted to catch up with Kevin backstage during the UK Tour and discussed managing his multiple roles, his introduction to acting in Norfolk and why you should come and see the magical musical on Tues 26 June – Sun 8 July.
Join Shrek, (Steffan Harri) and his loyal steed Donkey as they set off on a quest to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona (Amelia Lily) from her tower, guarded by a fire breathing love-sick dragon. Add the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad, a gang of fairytale misfits, and a biscuit with attitude, and you’ve got an irresistible mix of adventure, laughter and romance, guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages!
