A celebration of some of the West End’s biggest hits starts its twentieth year in style with a show at Norwich Theatre Royal.
Beyond The Barricade showcases some of the biggest shows theatre-land and is performed by some of the stars who appeared in those productions ending with its traditional and much-loved finale featuring magical moments from Les Misérables.
And it makes its return to Norwich Theatre Royal on Wednesday January 2 at 7.30pm.
The show was first conceived by musical theatre performers Andy Reiss and David Fawcett back in 1996 when they were asked to arrange and perform a series of musical theatre concerts for the charity Mencap.
The pair, who first met when performing in Les Misérables in Manchester, brought this fundraising show to life in the grounds of a Somerset country house. More shows followed before the pair decided to re-name it Beyond The Barricades and take it on its first UK tour in 1999.It built up a strong reputation for its bold no-nonsense concert format as well as using a live band as accompaniment.
The show has also been performed in some of the UK’s best-known theatres as well as touring around the world to the likes of Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.
Andy said: “As Beyond The Barricade heads into its 20th consecutive year of touring, we can look back on what has been a fantastic period of growth and change in the world of musical theatre.
“We cannot include everything from every style and genre but we hope that our selection of songs will provide you with an entertaining and exciting evening.”
